This September 2019 lecturer profile is very special, because on September 18 Fikom Unpad celebrates its 59th anniversary. We present the number one person in this faculty, namely Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat, S.Sos., SH, M.Sc. In the midst of his busy schedule as a dean, Head of ISKI, and his hobby of cycling, we managed to interview him at the Dean’s Building, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor.<\/p>\n

Pak Dadang, as he is usually called, has served at Fikom for 24 years, his career as a lecturer began in 1994 in the Department of Journalism (now Journalism Study Program). It is noted that he has served as Head of Journalism Study Program, Assistant Dean III and currently he serves as Dean of Fikom Unpad.<\/p>\n

His busyness doesn’t stop there, he was a member of the internal supervisory unit of Unpad and was involved in the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission. In 2004-2010, he was elected as Chairman of the West Java KPID and Chairman of the Central KPI in 2010-2012. Until now, he is often invited as a resource person in talk shows on radio or television stations, especially those whose topics are in line with his competence in the field of law and broadcasting.<\/p>\n

This bicycle sports enthusiast, is well aware that the development of the world of communication today is closely related to information technology which continues to grow as well. Because of that many people began to see the science of communication as the main science. Because in essence it is how to communicate<\/em> what is being worked on. Such as from the business sector, politics and even social. Through Fikom Unpad, Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat hopes to contribute to communication problems in society.<\/p>\n

When asked about his response regarding the development of communication education, he argued that education today must be at a stage where students become the center of learning. Not conservative learning, like the students only listen to the teacher. Innovation is also expected to appear in the learning model. Until they reach active students, they are not in a waiting position so that students can also become main players in the learning process. Fikom must be a facilitator to ensure that its students are in the right place to achieve their desires.<\/p>\n

\"\"Every year the study programs at Fikom Unpad still have big fans, at the 2019 SBMPTN the Communication Studies Study Program was included in the 5 study programs with the highest interest in the field of Socio-Humanities at Unpad. But Fikom still prioritizes quality over quantity. By regulating the number of students accepted and encouraging graduates to be on time, the ratio of lecturers to students is getting better every year. If in 2016 the ratio is 1:33, in 2017 the ratio is 1:31, in 2018 and now it is still with a ratio of 1:29<\/em> , while increasing the percentage of master and doctoral program students proportionally to support Unpad<\/em> to become a Research<\/em> University<\/em> . The average graduate on time in the last 2 years is around 50% and the average GPA of graduates who have steadily increased in the last 2 years, currently the average GPA of graduates is 3.54.<\/p>\n

The achievements of Fikom students are also not playing games from the end of 2018 and during 2019 several Fikom students have made various achievements, there are 44 national and international medals as well as other awards in various fields, both academic, sports and professional events that are relevant to portfolio strengthening. students later.<\/p>\n

Not inferior to students, the achievements of Fikom lecturers are also quite brilliant. This is shown by increasing various research schemes, increasing research output in the form of books, seminars\/proceedings, book chapters and accredited and reputable journals. Based on data, in the last 3 years the articles of lecturers and students have increased significantly, in the Scopus indexed journal in 2016 there were 7 articles, in 2017 there were 8 articles, in 2018 there were 59 articles and until September 2019 there were 66 articles. Of course the results of this research as output must be continued as outcomes and benefits or problems for humans and humanity.<\/p>\n

With existing resources, Fikom Unpad must have a contribution to society. \u201cThis is how we can innovate the learning process whose output<\/em> is not only smart students but also the benefits must be more than that, students must be able to provide benefits to the community. And hopefully it doesn’t get us caught up in awards or something confessional.”<\/p>\n

It is hoped that in the future Fikom can become a center of excellence for communication learning and research and this must be jointly pursued by all families of Fikom Unpad. \u201cWe have to become an institution that is able to accelerate with various things happening outside. We are not silent on existing developments, we are not busy alone in campus even though many need us. We strengthen our relationship. We don’t have to be competitors, but we have to be partners in solving various communication problems that are developing in society in the archipelago and even globally.” (RD)<\/p>\n
