<\/p>\nThe Alumni Association of Fikom Unpad and BEM Fikom Unpad held a public lecture with the theme “Today’s Communication: Opportunities, Technology and Career Challenges in the Digital Era and Global Geopolitics on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 13.00 WIB in the Oemi Abdurachman Room, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University. This public lecture presented speakers Dr. Hendri Satrio, Ishfihana Hafny Noer M.M., M.Kom., Henny Hariani M.Si., and Yudy Nugraha moderated by FX. Ari Prastowo, M.I.Kom as a lecturer in the Public Relations Study Program and attended by students of the Public Relations Study Program and Communication Management Study Program.<\/p>\n
The event began with remarks from the Dean of Fikom Unpad Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat, S.Sos., S.H., M.Si., he said that it is very important for alumni to share experiences with students to provide confidence and equip students in the digital era. “We want to convince them that communication is can be anywhere or multi-area but also requires knowledge and enthusiasm that we can continue to exist as a science or career in the field of communication which is quite promising,” he said.<\/p>\n
The first speaker, Dr. Hendri Satrio or often called Kang Hensa explained that “The more the era develops, the more new media emerges so that opportunities are increasingly open for communication students”. In addition, Kang Hensa also said that “as ‘communication students’, we must have one skill or focus or be a specialist and not a generalist to survive”. Next, the second speaker, Ishfihana Hafny Noer, M.M., M.Kom. explained the main focus of Artificial Intelligence on communication. He said that “AI can really help us in creating a job, but as users we are also required to be critical and responsible in using it”. In addition, he also said that “In fact, the validity of AI is only 70%”.<\/p>\n
The third speaker, Henny Hariani, M.Sc. gave survival tips in building a career in the communications industry because of the potential for AI disruption of 80%, industry convergence, and the need for adaptation. In addition, she also discussed the pillars of communication consisting of communicators, messages, media, communicants, effects and impacts on careers or professions. Henny Hariani, M.Sc. also said that “In communication we need logical, systematic skills and mindsets, smart collaboration, and the ability to collaborate on multiple platforms to be able and ready to work. In addition, we must also have a strong character”. She also explained how Gen-Z learns. As Gen-Z, the learning methods used are through mentoring, collaborative learning, reading and curation, and building a good digital footprint.<\/p>\n
The last session, the fourth speaker, Yudi Nugraha, said that there are three stages in managing a crisis or problem, the first is Pre-Crisis, which is preparing and identifying potential risks that occur. Then the second is Event, which is responding and responding to existing problems. Lastly, Post Event, the team must have integrity to respond quickly in recovering and learning from mistakes.
