
Center for Environmental Communication Studies Fikom Unpad Holds World Tree Day Webinar
The Center for Environmental Communication Studies Fikom Unpad in collaboration with the Department of Environment BEM Kema Unpad 2021 held a World Tree Day Webinar entitled “Young People Care for the Environment, Who’s Afraid?”. The activity took place on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 online through a Zoom Meeting in commemoration of World Tree Day which falls on November 21.
The event was opened by the Dean of Fikom Unpad Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat, S.H., S.Sos., M.Si. “With the utterance of bismillah, the webinar in the framework of World Tree Day with the theme ‘Young People Care for the Environment, Who’s Afraid?’ (don’t be afraid), was opened,” he said. Head of the Center for Environmental Communication Studies of Fikom Unpad Dr. Henny Sri Mulyani was also present among the many participants. “We invite students, brothers and sisters who are present to jointly love the environment, because we know that the future of the earth belongs to us together,” she said. Fikom Unpad lecturer who was previously the Head of the Center for Environmental Communication Studies at Fikom Unpad, Dr. Iriana Bakti, M.Si., became the first speaker to explain her explanation, she discussed the topic with the theme “Communication Strategies in Socializing Environmental Issues for Generation Z”.

Furthermore, Mr. Rony Irawanto, S.Si., M.T., a Researcher from BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency) explained about “Plant Utilization in Environmental Management (Phytomediation)”. He also conveyed a statement from the Profauna community that forest or forest ecosystem conservation will be more effective if it involves the active participation of the community, not just waiting for the government to take action. stakeholders, academics or researchers.
The Head of the Environmental Department of BEM Kema Unpad 2021, Aliyya Firdausy (2019 Communication Management) was also present as “Friend of Mang Uhe”. Aliyya discussed “Unpad Hejo’s Gait, A Form of Youth’s Concern for the Environment” in this session. Unpad Hejo itself is a propaganda medium from the Department of the Environment BEM Kema Unpad 2021 which guards and packages information beautifully about interesting environmental issues around the world.
In the question and answer session, the enthusiasm of the participants was very pronounced, this was evident from the number of participants who conveyed their questions through the Zoom Meeting message room. Starting from questions about communication approaches regarding forest conversion, trends in the use of environmentally friendly products, to what we can do to prevent the climate crisis from happening. More than 150 participants joined the World Tree Day Webinar from Unpad students and lecturers as well as other participants. The event closed with a photo with all participants. (NA)
