Fikom Unpad held a Scientific Oration and Fikom Anugerah in the framework of the 64th Dies Natalis
The Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University celebrated its 64th Anniversary by holding a Scientific Oration and Fikom Anugerah on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 08.00-12.00 WIB. The event was attended by lecturers, education staff, students, alumni, and invitees. The 64th Anniversary of Fikom Unpad has been held from August 2024 to September 2024 which consists of Book Review, National Seminar, Grateful Fikom, Fikom Sharing, Sports Competition, Scientific Oration, Fikom Award, and Family Gathering.
Acting. Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran Prof. Dr. Arief S. Kartasasmita, Sp. M(K), M Kes., Ph.D delivered a speech and congratulated the 64th anniversary of Fikom Unpad. He said that Fikom Unpad has gained a special place in Indonesian society, this can be seen from the high public interest in entering Fikom Unpad. It is hoped that Fikom will be given the ease to step up to be the best in Indonesia and even internationally, to be an inspiration for all faculties at Unpad in particular, and for all faculties of communication science in Indonesia, so that together we can form a better and more useful Indonesian society to welcome a better Indonesia in the future.
Vice Dean of Fikom Unpad Prof. Dr. Atwar Bajari, M. Si. submit an annual report that includes the number of students, the tightness of new admissions, student graduation, average GPA, student MBKM activities, cooperation with other universities, and scientific publications. He said, until now the Faculty of Communication Science which manages 10 study programs, together with 3 departments continues to optimize institutions and synergies between management units in carrying out their functions. In 2024, more than 16,898 prospective students competed for 754 places in all study programs and all levels with a tightness level of 1: 26.
Furthermore, Ir. Suryo Pratomo opened his scientific oration with the topic “Artificial Intelligence Disruption”, which discussed the huge impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on various sectors, including the communications industry. He outlined how AI has changed the way people interact, do business, and access information. In his presentation, Suryo Pratomo also highlighted the ethical challenges and great opportunities that arise from the integration of AI into everyday life.
The next orator was Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat, S.Sos., S.H., M. Si. who delivered material on “Broadcasting and Nationality”, where he underlined the importance of the role of broadcast media in maintaining the integrity and togetherness of the nation. Broadcasting is not just an information tool, but a pillar in the formation of a solid and inclusive national identity. Dr. Dadang also emphasized the need for responsible broadcasting in the digital era to strengthen national unity amidst the swift flow of global information.
The next agenda was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Fikom Unpad and the Banten Provincial Library and Archives Office, the Health Social Security Organizing Agency, and Housing and Settlement Engineering. After the scientific oration, the event continued with Fikom Anugerah, an award given as a form of appreciation for outstanding Fikom Unpad academicians.
There are five categories in Fikom Anugerah, namely the category of lecturers with publications in Scopus or Web of Science (WoS) indexed international journals awarded to Dr. Agus Rusmana, M.A., The second category is the author of articles in mass media given to Dr. Abie Besman, M.I.Kom., Prof. Dr. Deddy Mulyana, M.A., Dr. Aceng Abdullah, M. Si., Prof. Dr. Suwandi Sumartias, M.Si. and Prof. Dr. Uud Wahyudin, M. Si. Furthermore, the third category is the author of the book in 2024 given to Dr. Toto Sugito, M. Si., Dr. Edwin Rizal, M. Si. and Rizki N, S.Sos., M.A. The fourth category is tendik with the best attendance rate given to Muksin, Dian Suherlan, and Jujun Junaedi. The next category was the winner of Unpad Bergerak which was given to the Fikom Unpad women’s volleyball team as the 1st winner, Fikom Unpad men’s basketball team as the 3rd winner, and Fikom Unpad table tennis team as the 3rd winner as well as the Unpad Nyeni winner category which was given to the Fikom Unpad kamonesan team as the 2nd winner and Fikom Unpad soloists as the 1st and 3rd winners.
The 64th Anniversary of Fikom Unpad was closed with enthusiasm and hope for a brighter future. This anniversary is not only a celebration, but also a reflection for the entire academic community to continue to improve the quality and relevance of communication science in the digital era, and improve the Faculty of Communication Science, Padjadjaran University to continue to grow.
