The Faculty of Communication Sciences at Padjadjaran University (Fikom Unpad) held an orientation and mentoring program for new students for the 2025/2026 academic year on August 13, 2025. This activity is part of the Campus Life Orientation Program for New Students (PKKMB), aimed at introducing the various academic programs (prodi) available at Fikom Unpad. The programs involved in this activity include Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Communication Management, Library and Information Science, Television and Film, and Communication Studies at the PSDKU Pangandaran campus.
This event was attended by all new students of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Padjadjaran University who were eager to learn more about the study programs they had chosen. The event took place at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Padjadjaran University, providing a warm and friendly atmosphere for the participants. Through this event, new students were expected to gain an understanding of the profile, achievements of graduates, and career prospects of each study program.
One of the most interesting sessions was a discussion led by the Head of the Library and Information Science Study Program, Dr. Rd. Hj. Funny Mustikasari Elita, M.Si. In this session, the Head of the Study Program asked new students of the Library and Information Science Study Program questions related to the three graduate profiles offered. The results showed that the majority of new students expressed interest in pursuing careers as digital asset managers. This reflects the growing industry demand for digital information management skills.
In addition, new students were also actively asking questions about job opportunities abroad, opportunities to continue their studies for graduates of the Computer Network Engineering Vocational School, and learning materials about coding. These questions demonstrate the enthusiasm and curiosity of new students regarding job prospects in the field they have chosen.
Another interesting session was also seen in the Communication Science study program. In this session, new students formed groups and were given the opportunity to get to know the Communication Science lecturers better through question and answer sessions, which ended with a photo session for each group with each lecturer as a sign of introduction.
The academic activities carried out by all study programs at Fikom Unpad ended with a mentoring session, where new students had the opportunity to meet and consult directly with their academic advisors. This session aimed to provide academic guidance and help new students plan their studies at Fikom Unpad.
With these orientation and mentoring activities, it is hoped that new students will be better prepared and more confident in pursuing their studies at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University. These activities serve as an important first step in building a strong academic foundation for the next generation in the field of communication sciences. (FB/TAH)
