
Fikom Unpad Students encourage Sustainable Tourism in Karyasari Village, Garut Regency
Fikom Bereksplorasi is a collective movement initiated by the Environmental Social Department of BEM Fikom Unpad together with student associations within Fikom. After going through several survey activities, Fikom students who joined this movement saw the potential for tourism in the Karang Paranje Beach area, Karyasari Village, Garut Regency. Thus, the community empowerment activities that took place on October 8 and 9, 2022 focused on building Sustainable Tourism.
The first event began with a discussion forum on Saturday (8/10/22) which was attended by Dr. Uud Wahyudin and Samson CMS, M.I.Kom as academics of Fikom Unpad, Mr. Wawan as the Chairperson of Kompepar as well as the Chairperson of the Karyasari Village BPD, Head of UPT of the Garut Regency Tourism and Culture Office, Mrs. Iis Aisyah and 3 Heads of Hamlets and RT-RW heads in Karyasari Village. The main topic discussed was the Sustainable Tourism Development of Karyasari Village with several focus issues namely, Promotion, Culture, and Environment.

The next activity, Fikom students held a friendly soccer match with local youths. Apart from being a form of joint sports activity, this match is also a gathering place for local youth. The organizers also received basic training on waste by Dr. Herlina Agustin as a researcher at the Center for Environmental Communication Studies and Gita Noor as the founder of the Paragita Foundation, before the next day providing waste-related presentations to residents and local elementary school children and conducting a joint beach cleanup activity. The waste that has been separated and collected will later be recycled into eco-bricks and the rest given to the nearest Waste Bank. (BEM)
