Inauguration and Scientific Oration of Professors of Fikom Unpad Prof. Dr. Atwar Bajari, M.Si., Prof. Dr. Eni Maryani, M.Si., and Prof. Dr. Ninis Agustini, M.Lib.
Universitas Padjadjaran held an Inauguration Ceremony and Scientific Oration of Professor Position held at Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad Iwa Koesoemasoemantri Campus, Bandung. On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, three professors from the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University participated in the Inauguration and Scientific Oration activities.
The inauguration ceremony was opened by the Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran Prof. Rina Indiastuti and chaired by the Chair of the Unpad Professors Council Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf, M.Sc., PhD. The three new professors who attended the Inaugural Ceremony and Scientific Oration of Professor Position in the Field of Communication Science were Prof. Dr. Atwar Bajari, M.Si., Prof. Dr. Eni Maryani, M.Si., and Prof. Dr. Ninis Agustini, M.Lib.
The inaugural ceremony and scientific oration of the third session began with a scientific oration delivered by Prof. Dr. Atwar Bajari, M.Si. dengan judul “Ujaran Kebencian dan Konflik Identitas Mengupayakan Komunikasi Dialektis dalam Media Sosial”. He highlighted hate speech in social media using Virtual Ethnography and Qualitative Analysis approaches. He explained that the increase in hate speech in social media is increasingly worrying, social media has become a campaign media that constructs the loyalty of supporters while denigrating the opposing party. Hate speech is a social fact, conflicts between groups must be resolved through dialog and negotiation, finding common ground, and respecting differences.
Then, the next scientific oration was delivered by Prof. Dr. Eni Maryani, M.Si. dengan judul “Kajian Kritis Media: Sebuah Refleksi Demokratisasi Komunikasi”. Kajian tersebut adalah hasil penelitian terkait permasalahan industri media yang mendistorsi komunikasi sosial di masyarakat. “The diversity of media that develops in society is expected to facilitate a variety of public spaces so that the preparation of public policies can not only be known, understood, and implemented but can be controlled properly,” he said.
The last agenda in the third session was a scientific oration presented by Prof. Dr. Ninis Agustini, M.Lib. dengan judul “Literasi Mitigasi Bencana Berbasis Kearifan Lokal”. He revealed that it is important for the community to raise awareness regarding potential disasters that cannot be predicted with certainty and know how to overcome them.
The Inauguration Ceremony and Scientific Oration of Professor Position of Padjadjaran University is expected to provide benefits for the development in all scientific fields, especially in the field of Communication Science.
