Follow Passion, Open a Career Path for Imansyah Lubis

Talking about hobbies, fun and passion will never end. Especially if we talk to friends who have the same hobbies, that’s what happened when we interviewed Imansyah Lubis. His warm and friendly demeanor made the interview session like a casual chat between two best friends.
Our departure for Jakarta was to meet the alumni of the Communication Management Department, Faculty of Communication, Unpad, batch 1993, because of their work in the film industry. Kang Iman, as he is familiarly called, is currently the Production Manager of Bumi Langit Entertainment, the production house for the Box Office film Gundala: This Country Needs a Patriot. The Indonesian superhero film, which aired on August 29, 2019, until the end of its screening period in theaters, managed to break through the 1.5 million audience. Even at its premiere, the film by Director Joko Anwar, received 174,013 viewers, beating the phenomenal film by Joko Anwar, namely Pengabdi Setan.
As the Production Manager of Bumi Langit, Imansyah Lubis’ role is very important, especially in the development of the birth of the Bumu Langit production house in the film industry. Some of the marketing strategies carried out by Kang Iman and his team include collaborating with 3 major media groups in Indonesia, digital media, KOL to placing Gundala advertisements during the calculation of the Quick Count of the Presidential Election in April 2019. In addition, they also carried out a strategy by ‘lowering’ Gundala to the road during Car Free Day and taking the MRT public transportation.

Kang Iman’s current success is the fruit of his hard work even from his college days. The man who was born in Medan, August 29, 1975, is an active student in associations and various student organizations. After graduating from Fikom Unpad, he started his career by migrating to Batam to become part of HRD Astra Microtronics Techno. After 10 years in Batam, he decided to return to Bandung to continue his master’s studies at FSRD ITB, Fine Arts Study Program. Long story short, in 2011 Kang Iman got a free vacation to Germany for 3 weeks because Kang Iman managed to ‘please’ the Goethe Institute in making his comics as Goethe Curator.
For him, carrying knowledge while in college is an important thing to do. However, increasing experience, practicing soft-skills and hard-skills , participating in various kinds of activities are also important. Because of these things can affect our self-growth indirectly. Of course, these activities are carried out on the basis of ‘like’ or passion , so that when we carry out these things we are happy to pursue them. Kang Iman even dared to take the topic of his thesis ‘Perjalanan Komik Indonesia from 1930-1970’ on the basis of his enjoyment of the comic world. Each individual is required to specialize in developing our passion , because doing a hobby that we enjoy is what keeps us ‘sane’ in the hustle and bustle of college.
Enjoying all the processes we do during college is like blood, sweat and tears. When asked who his favorite Fikom Lecturer was, he said that Prof. Engkus Kuswarno, Dr. Jenny Ratna Suminar and Dr. Eni Maryani who allowed Kang Iman to be himself and allowed him to expand his experience in the field that he enjoys. Kang Iman also gave a message to colleagues to always continue to upgrade our soft skills and hard skills, indeed we will spend a lot of money to gain knowledge but the knowledge will be an investment for our own future. Of course, we will not regret learning a lot from our own life experiences as well as the experiences of others. (Okky)
