
Unpad Fikom Students at XX Papua PON 2021
Students of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran (Fikom Unpad) participated in showing their skills at the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) which took place on October 2-15, 2021. There were five Fikom Unpad students who participated representing their respective regions, such as West Java Province and DKI Jakarta.
At the biggest national sports party in Indonesia, students from various study programs at Fikom Unpad participated in various sports according to their expertise. The students were Catherine Sihaloho (fencing), Adji Gilang Riano Ariaputra ( softball ), Timotius Mulyadi (aquatic sport – open water swimming), Alyssa Azka (taekwondo sport), and Rio Muhammad Fakhri Utomo (degree fighting sport).
Not only participating as participants, but some of the Fikom students also brought home medals from the event which was opened on October 2, 2021. Catherine Sihaloho who represented DKI Jakarta province won a bronze medal in fencing. Similar to Catherine, who represented the capital, Adji Gilang Riano Ariaputra also won a silver medal in the men’s softball sport. For the 3000 M open water swimming, Timothy Mulyadi won a bronze medal. From the men’s 61.1-64 kg class fighting sport, Rio Muhammad Fakhri Utomo also brought home a bronze medal.
The first PON to be held in Papua Province is divided into four clusters namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency, and Mimika Regency, having 37 sports and 56 disciplines competed. PON XX was originally set to take place in October 2020, but was postponed to October 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This four-year event was attended by athletes from 34 provinces throughout Indonesia. (N/A)
